Overview Overview

The aim of this module is to present a rationale for the concept and broad approach of Development Education, (DE), particularly as it is understood in Ireland, and encourage critical reflection on its place within broader global development strategies. Its relationship to other educational approaches such as 'Global Learning', 'Global Citizenship Education', and 'Education for Sustainable Development' will be examined and reflected upon. As the general approach to DE can be understood as a participatory process of learning, the module will encourage students to explore and critique this, and enable their practical appreciation of this through group-centred exercises and activities, with specific focus on the role of facilitation as an alternative to more didactic teaching methods.
