	Overview
	Why translate?; What is translation?; Who are translators?; Who are translations for?: introduction to the major debates of translation studies; analysis of examples from translated texts; analysis of retranslations of the text in different languages and cultures in answer to these questions.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: discuss some of the major debates in translation studies. analyse translations in a language of their choice in relation to these debates. write an essay on the topic of translation debates write a commentary on a section of translated text post-edit a piece of translated text
