	To provide an opportunity for students in the first year of research to develop a research plan for their thesis. In particular this involves the development of techniques on research and presentation specific to historians including citation conventions and bibliographical conventions as well as the development of presentation skills and discussion of their own work in progress for peer appraisal.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: recognize the main aims and objectives of their thesis distinguish alternative approaches and be prepared to defend in a seminar their distinctive approach develop the presentation skills for written work monitor the coherence and consistency of their emerging arguments and subject this to peer review reflect in a seminar paper on their on-going research
