To provide an opportunity for students in the first year of research to devise a research plan for their thesis featuring structured approaches to researching and writing their study. This includes articulating key research questions, locating the thesis within existing historiography, identifying and adopting appropriate methodologies and conceptual framework(s), developing skills in identifying and accessing relevant primary sources and secondary literature, honing skills in coherent argumentation. Students also practise compiling applications for postgraduate scholarships.
