• - appreciate multiple perspectives on selected topics in European history.
• - distinguish different historical research strategies and discuss their respective analytical values in application to specific problems in European history .
• - process a large body of secondary source material, and appreciate, based on able selection, complementary approaches and methods.
• - monitor the coherence and consistence of historical argumentation critically.
• - formulate a critical position towards body of existing research, and document it for the peer group.
• - consider the transferability of approaches and methods to other fields of historical research.

• Continuous Assessment detail(s): Discussion preparation in groups (30%), Active participation in class discussions (20%), book review (50%).

• Penalties: No late material accepted unless medical or other compelling reasons are established in writing. The expectation is for full attendance by students. Explanation in writing is required in every case of absence. The project/essay of a candidate who has missed more than 50% of classes will not be eligible for assessment under any circumstances.
