This module focuses on one historiographic method in great detail, including the genesis of that particular method, its evolution over time and its potential instrumentalisation within specific historical contexts. The module requires each student to conduct a comparative analysis of key primary and secondary sources and present their findings in class for discussion. Finally, each participant is required to critique both the advantages and limitations of the overall method in an essay submitted at the end of the semester, providing examples from our course of study. The module theme for 2018-19 academic year is cultural history.
