• - appreciate their respective analytical values in application to specific problems in European history.
• - distinguish historical understanding and historical explanation.
• - process a large body of secondary source material, and appreciate approaches, methods and significance of seminal studies.
• - deliberate the transfer of approaches and methods taken from the existing historiography to other fields of research.
• - reflect on the preconditions of knowledge transfer through documentation for the peer group and demonstrate basic editorial skills through the joint completion of a documentation (reader)

• Continuous Assessment detail(s): Discussion preparation and organization (30%), active participation in discussion (20%), assembling and editing of a topical reader (50%).

• Pass standard: 40%

• Penalties: No late material accepted unless medical or other compelling reasons are established in writing. The expectation is for full attendance by students. Explanation in writing is required in every case of absence. The project/essay of a candidate who has missed more than 50% of classes will not be eligible for assessment under any circumstances.
