On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:

1. To provide detailed knowledge and insight of the organisation and function of the European Union’s Common Security and Defence Policy.
2. To provide detailed knowledge and insight of the organisation and function of NATO.
3. To provide detailed knowledge and insight of the organisation and function of the UN.
4. Explore the operational approach associated with each of the EU, NATO and UN on peace support and stabilisation operations. To develop the students understanding of the complexity of Stabilisation Operations, the roles and structures of International/Regional Governmental and Non-Governmental Organisations currently involved in shaping the International Peace and Security environment, and their impact on Military Stabilisation Operations.
5. To enhance the student’s understanding of insurgency, counterinsurgency and terrorism theory and of operational responses in areas of conflict
6. To enhance the students understanding of Security Sector Reform and Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration concepts and programmes.
