• 1. To develop the students understanding of the issues facing contemporary Irish military decision makers and the strategic development of defence policy. 2. To develop the student’s appreciation of the role of military and other stakeholders within the context of a comprehensive approach to security issues at home and overseas. 3. To expand the student’s knowledge of key strategic governmental issues (and the civil-military space) which impact on Defence policy and equip students with the skills necessary to advocate, negotiate and interact with civil-servants, politicians and industry. 4. To provide the students with an appreciation of the capability development, acquisition and management process with emphasis on project management awareness and skills

• 120 contact hours. Teaching methods to be employed will include a mixture of formal lectures, presentations, in-class group work, seminar-type discussions and class-room exercises

• Continuous Assessment detail(s): Total marks: 100 Breakdown of marks: 50% formal presentations with handout and 50% portfolio (5,000 words)

• Pass standard: 40%

• Penalties: As a general rule an assignment submitted after the relevant deadline will not be marked.
