• Know what are the standard tools employed in the management of any small service enterprise, including budget projections, work schedules and annual reports. LO1 (knowledge)
• Understand how the success of an archives service, over the long-term, is related to the quality of leadership demonstrated by those in charge. LO2 (knowledge)
• Plan a realistic annual budget for a small archives service. LO3 (skills)
• Give a public address promoting a particular project. LO4 (skills)
• See how generic leadership and management skills may be usefully applied to work within the archives sector. LO5 (competences)
• Face the leadership and project management challenges that are typically encountered by the person appointed as sole operator of a small archives research facility. LO6 (competences)

• 12 hours workshops/ lectures or equivalent also x6 hours of tutorial work. Planned leaning activities 18 hours and independent student activities 18 hours. The weekly one-hour tutorial (over six weeks, with prescribed reading), is an integral part of this module, as is the hands-on archival work (12 hours) undertaken on Mondays and Tuesdays.
