• appreciate the importance of urban development as a factor in the evolution of local societies
• identify the methods that can be used to explore the evolution of the Irish urban landscape
• trace sources in various repositories related to the study of the Irish urban landscape
• summarise and reflect on their findings in an analytical context using methodologies developed in the Irish Historic Towns Atlas project
