Module HISTORY DISSERTATION

Module code: HY301
Credits: 10
Semester: Year-Long
Department: HISTORY
International: No
Overview Overview

The dissertation gives the final year History Single Major student a high degree of autonomy to develop, design, conduct, present and write-up a significant piece of research. With the support of dissertation tutorials and library sessions (semester 1), and under the guidance of an assigned supervisor (semesters 1 and 2), each student undertakes research on an approved topic. This will be in an area that links with a module the student has already taken or is taking. The topic may also be in the area of a SPUR internship or similar, subject to the approval of the department. The student will present orally on their topic to their peers, while the final dissertation will be assessed under the following headings: introduction; sources utilised; presentation; bibliography; overall achievement. The referencing should be in accordance with ‘Rules for contributors to Irish Historical Studies’. Please note that material examined in another module cannot be re-submitted as part of the dissertation.
