Module DIGITAL IMAGE PROCESSING & ADVANCED REMOTE SENSING

Module code: GY633
Credits: 20
Semester: 2
Department: GEOGRAPHY
International: No
Coordinator: Dr Paul Gibson (GEOGRAPHY)
Overview Overview

This module focuses more fully on Digital Image Processing and computer processing of remotely sensed data. A second key element of the module will focus on Remote Sensing of the shallow subsurface using geophysical techniques such as ground penetrating radar, resistivity, magnetic gradiometry and VLF. These theoretical and practical based sessions will involve training with state of the art geophysical equipment and computer modeling. Lecture Topics Preprocessing digital satellite data Georectification procedures Image correction techniques Digital image processing – contrast stretching/ratioing Digital image processing – classification Digital image processing – vectors Digital image processing – spatial and frequency filtering Digital image processing – change detection, DEMs /non-image datasets Digital image processing – IHS and PC transforms Digital image processing – data fusion.
