Module HISTORICAL GEOGRAPHY

Module code: GY238
Credits: 5
Semester: 2
Quota: 140
Department: GEOGRAPHY
International: Yes
Coordinator: Prof. Gerry Kearns (GEOGRAPHY)
Overview Overview

Society and space each have a historical character. The dynamic processes that shape our lives are the product of past events. We can hardly understand the present without reference to longer-term processes of change or without an appreciation of the many uses made of history by modern ideologists. This course explores some of the historical dimensions of modern Irish society. Each week we will take up one of the many concepts that have been used to understand the Irish past and to render that past relevant to the Irish present. My claim is that many of these concepts are inherently geographical.
