Module code: GY231
Credits: 5
Semester: 2
Quota: 140
Department: GEOGRAPHY
International: Yes
Coordinator: Prof. Mark Boyle (GEOGRAPHY)
Overview Overview

Using the modern rise in world population from 1750 as its backdrop, this module explores the three basic processes shaping population change (fertility, mortality, and migration). Students will be expected to critically reflect upon key theories of mortality, fertility, and migration, the techniques and measurement tools population geographers use when tracking population trends, the data sources population geographers use at various scales from the global to the local, and the politics and ethics of the ways in which states intervene to shape population change. Throughout, a global perspective will be adopted.
