This course begins by exploring the basic principles of the subject of hydrology, which is the study of the processes responsible for the occurrence, distribution, movement and quality of water on and below the earth''s surface. This knowledge is then considered in combination with social, economic and political factors to gain an understanding of the problems associated with the uneven distribution of fresh water, the growing demand for water and the impacts of human activity on available water resources. The final part of the course examines water management strategies and their appropriateness in different contexts.
