	Overview
	This module's objective is to understand the development of Ireland's physical landscape in terms of the processes that have affected it through geological time. The operation of landscape forming processes is examined in order to understand the historical development of the Irish landscape. The module commences with an examination of the large scale geological (endogenic and exogenic) processes and affecting all landscapes of the world. It then examines the geological evolution of Ireland and its geomorphology including the role of Ireland's climatic history, mass movement, fluvial, karst, glacial and coastal processes.

	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Describe landscape forming processes Recognise the scales of geological time involved in landscape formational processes Select the landscape formational processes operational in particular landscapes during the Tertiary and Quaternary Periods Determine the landscape forming processes which have affected the physical form of landscape features

	Autumn Supplementals/Resits
	Are supplemental/resit registrations permitted? Yes Students may opt to do supplemental continuous assessment over the Summer (details will normally be posted on the GY211 Moodle page), but will have to surrender any continuous assessment marks earned over the regular lecturing year if they opt to do so. Otherwise, the continuous assessment mark will be carried forward to the Autumn, without scope for improvement. Only those students who have officially registered to repeat/resit their module in the Autumn will be allowed to submit supplemental continuous assessment.
