Module FIELD METHODS AND DATA ANALYSIS

Module code: GY208
Credits: 5
Semester: 1
Quota: 22
Department: GEOGRAPHY
International: No
Coordinator: Dr John Coll (GEOGRAPHY)
Overview Overview

Clever ideas often strike us most about good research. But as in other areas of innovation, a lot of effort needs to go into planning, collecting and analysing data before we can settle down to tell the fascinating story of the idea.
This module offers a behind-the-scenes look at what makes effective research in physical geography and in human geography. It combines hands-on experience in the field and in the computer lab with an introduction to the power and limitations of the methods at our disposal.
The module explores experimental design, including data collection and storage; data analysis; the use of statistical language and its abuses; interpretation of results and reporting research effectively.
