This introductory module taken in conjunction with GY114 examines the physical processes influential in shaping contemporary landscapes. This is done in an integrated manner using a systems-based approach and predominantly a global perspective. The main component of physical geography introduced in this module is that of the atmospheric environment. Basic aspects of atmospheric energy flow, atmospheric motion and moisture and the functioning of atmospheric disturbances are introduced and their role in causing spatial variation in environmental challenges and responses examined. The geographical skills classes provide an introduction to basic skills and techniques in geography.
