Module FINDING INFORMATION FOR YOUR THESIS

Module code: GST2
Credits: 5
Semester: Year-Long
Department: GRADUATE SKILLS
International: Yes
Overview Overview

This module is designed to develop and enhance the “finding the best information” experience for all research students. It directs students to the most appropriate research level academic resources, provides advice on using a range of academic databases and online resources, and will also provide key information on how to manage references. These key skills are necessary both at the earlier stages of formulating a research question and throughout the PhD programme. Topics will be addressed mainly through active collaborative experiences in a workshop-based environment.
Research students may opt to attend sessions on an individual basis, or register for the module and attend a minimum of six sessions to attain 5 ECTS credits. Students can build up the five credits over more than one year of their research studies, although, all workshops are ran again in the second semester.
Research students must register for the module via their Student Web Portal. Students must register, via an online form, for the specific workshop(s) they wish to attend, whether or not they are registered for the module. Please visit www.maynoothuniversity.ie/rsdp for a list of the GST2 workshops for 2018-19 and the registration form. Please submit a separate form for each workshop you plan on attending. Attendance sheets will be circulated in each session and should be signed by all present.
