The module will offer an introduction to some of the fundamental approaches to linguistics, such as cross-cultural semantics, morpho-syntax, contrastive linguistics, phonetics, pragma-linguistics, and socio-linguistics. The module will enable students to further improve their German language skills by helping them to understand how the German language works. The module is divided into two halves: Theoretical Linguistics (semiotics, morphology, phonetics, semantics and pragmatics) and Applied Linguistics (language policy and planning, German as a lingua franca, multilingualism and second language acquisition).
