German as an elective subject is open to Second Year undergraduate students from all three faculties as well as postgraduate students of any level and will be delivered on a blended-learning basis with 2 live contact hours accompanied by asynchronous content accessible on Moodle at any time. The module aims at developing confidence and accuracy in German through various media (texts, images, videos, online resources) and to enable students to use the German language in a range of contexts and situations.

This module is aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) at level A1.1, where the emphasis is on achieving a fundamental level of communication in all four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing). A student achieving an overall mark of 60% or higher in this module will have demonstrated linguistic competence commensurate with CEFR level A1.1.

Please note: This module is not suitable for students who took German at Leaving Certificate level or students who have previously taken classes in German.
