This course will provide students with insight into current debates, issues and events of importance in the German-speaking countries using up-to-date materials from German radio, television, film, newspapers and the internet. Skills to be practised include listening to and summarising news and television reports; simulating debates on controversial issues and topics; and summarising events, trends and debates in German. The course will also offer some background information on contemporary politics and society in the German-speaking countries.
