(Re-)Negotiating East-Germanness

This module introduces students to the historical period of the GDR and the economic, social, and cultural processes of German Reunification to the present. Particular attention will be given to German and East-German identity constructs, i.e. who/what is considered German by whom, and what does it mean to be East German in this context? Throughout the module, we will explore different media texts, incl. literature, film, music, news media, and social media.

**This 5-ECTS credit module may be used as part of the 15-ECTS credits in the study of literature (including drama, poetry, fiction, film studies etc.) required for accreditation by the Teaching Council of Ireland.
