Dutch is a West Germanic, Low German language spoken by around 24 million people worldwide. It is grammatically similar in many ways to standard German, but spoken Dutch can be very different in speech. This course offers an introduction to Dutch for those who have no prior knowledge of the language. It will focus on basic grammar, pronunciation, oral expression, and elementary aural and written comprehension. The course will also offer some useful background information on the culture and society of the Low Countries.
