This module aims at developing students' competence in German further, building on knowledge and skills acquired in First year. It also continues with sensitising students to the cultures and societies of the German-speaking world and further deepens their knowledge and understanding of such through various media (texts, images, videos, online). The module aims at building confidence and a degree of accuracy when using the language in a broad range of situations. Although all students taking this module will cover the same course and take the same exam/s, students will be internally streamed in accordance with their linguistic competence to ensure an effective and comfortable learning environment.
The module is aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for Languages at level B1, where the emphasis is on achieving an intermediate level of communication in all four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing). A student achieving an overall mark of 60% or higher in this module will have demonstrated linguistic competence commensurate with CEFR level B1.1.
