• Describe key periods in French-Candian history and link them to literary production.
• Discuss the contribution of two selected authors to the canon of French-Canadian literature.
• Identify and examine a number of themes that appear to be common to French-Canadian literature.
• Demonstrate awareness of two important genres in the history of French-Canadian literature: le roman de la terrre and le roman de la ville.
• Compare and contrast a roman de la terre with a roman de la ville in terms of style, character, themes, tone and other factors.
• Reflect on how French-Canadian identity has evolved since its foundation.

• 12 lecture hours, supplemented by private study.
