	Overview
	Translation from English into French (Th�me). Dossier of contemporary French writing drawn from newspapers for comprehension exercises and essay writing. Dossier of passages drawn from a variety of contemporary texs in English for translation into French. Grammar and other related written work designed to foster fluency and accuracy. Oral discussion and expression on non-literary topics. Students obtaining a grade of 60% and above on completing this module can be deemed to have attained a CEFRL level of C1.1. This module is required for students wishing to fulfill teaching council requirements.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Comprehension, fluent and accurate formulation in written and spoken French. Demonstrate a high level of accuracy in the translation of texts from English into French. Define key terms describing changes in syntax and grammar that occur when translating. Produce grammatically sound and structurally coherent written responses in French to a range of stimuli. Communicate in oral French with a high level of fluency and spontaneity and an awareness of register and idiom.

A minimum mark of 40% on both the oral and written components of the examination must be achieved in order to obtain a pass. Attendance for this module is monitored regularly. If attendance falls below 70% of session hours, the mark will be capped at 35% for this module. This module condition will not be applied to repeat examinations. Absence owing to medical or other compelling reasons is not penalised. The reason must be established in writing prior to, or immediately (i.e. not more than two working days) after the missed class and evidence provided (normally such evidence would be a medical certificate). A minimum mark of 40% must be obtained to pass the oral examination, which must be passed. A minimum mark of 40% must be obtained on the written paper as a whole.
