• Define the nature of government and conceptions of kingship under Louis XIV.
• Demonstrate awareness of how the court was represented and criticised in various literary genres at the time, and how the court and life of Louis XIV has been represented in contemporary film.
• Critically analyse a range of literary genres, inlcuding fable, film and prose.

• Twelve lecture hours, supplemented by private study.

• Module Graded (numeric value) or Ungraded (Pass/Not Passed): Graded
• Continuous Assessment detail(s): Essay or one-hour written examination at the end of the semester.

• Pass standard: 40%
