Students may have an opportunity to be placed within an academic or research group outside Maynooth University to gain more extensive research experience. Examples of such research experience include but are not limited to training in an advanced technique, access to specialised equipment/resources, and the opportunity for appropriate field work. Such opportunities are arranged by the student’s supervisor and agreed with the host organisation and supervisor. It is recommended that a supervisor in the external host organisation is involved in planning the specific research learning outcomes for the student along with the student’s MU supervisor. These research-specific learning outcomes must be appropriate to the period of the research placement. The research experience must be described in a written report and in an oral presentation in the host organisation and/or a MU audience on their return (within two months). The minimum placement period is one month.
