The aim of this modules is to review the main topics in extragalactic astronomy and observational cosmology and their implications for our understanding of the origin and evolution of the universe.

Module content: The Big Bang, cosmological models, Big Bang nucleosynthesis & the abundance of light elements, the Hubble flow, large-scale structure of the Universe, dark matter, inflation and the cosmological constant, dark energy, the growth of structure, the cosmic microwave background radiation, current experiments. Non-thermal processes, synchrotron radiation, active galactic nuclei, the Unified Model, quasars as probes of the early Universe.
