This module introduces students to methods of conducting postgraduate research including obtaining, analysing, interpreting and synthesising information from a range of primary and secondary sources (print, e-resources, archives etc.) to engage research questions, develop an argument and substantiate conclusions while ensuring intellectual independence and research integrity. The module consists of a series of workshops that provide essential skills both for completing essays and the mini-dissertation as well as for any future career, especially with respect to conducting research efficiently and ethically; distinguishing facts from persuasive rhetoric; writing clearly, concisely, and compellingly. The workshops are delivered by the English Department academic staff members as well as colleagues from the Maynooth University Library and Writing Centre.
