This module will be taught be intensive workshops, providing a space in which students will be guided towards honing their writing, reading, critical and self-editing skills. Working as a group, students will follow a curriculum of workshops designed by the seminar leader. Seminars will focus on specific aspects of writing, such as plot, characterisation, place, dialogue, backstory. Students will be set exercise which will extend their ability and critical knowledge in specific areas of writing and will be expected to engage with literary and other texts which influence their writing and which they can learn from. Seminar leaders will devise a programme of tasks and readings which will develop these skills through short exercises, discussion and peer-to-peer feedback. Students will engage with contemporary writing as a way of familiarising themselves with current trends in writing and giving students the ability to situate their own writing in terms of current developments on creative writing.
Students will compile a portfolio of short pieces through this module’s set exercises.
