• Explain the principles of operation of sensors suitable for the most commonly used clinically relevant physiological measurements
• Design a range of standard and specialised circuits suitable for medical instrumentation applications such as the Wheatstone bridge, inverting, non-inverting, differential and instrumentation amplifiers as well as basic filtering practices.
• Review current problems of the capabilities and applications of a variety of commonly used instrumentation systems such as ECG, EMG, EEG, NIRS and ultrasound.

• Assignments 3x 12 hours Laboratories 7 x 3 hours

• Module Graded (numeric value) or Ungraded (Pass/Not Passed): Graded
• Continuous Assessment detail(s): Assignments (3) 25% Labs 15%
• Other detail(s): Module exam conducted in class at the end of term.

• Pass standard: 40%
• Could the result of this module be capped? No
• In order to pass this module, students must achieve an overall mark of at least 40%. The individual assessment components do not have to be passed separately.
• Penalties: Late submission of assignment will not, in general, be accepted.
