To give a detailed overview of the current developments in wireless digital communications.

• Introduction – The digital communications model, wireless vs. wireline.
• The wireless channel – Random channels, coherence time, coherence bandwidth, the scattering function, capacity, free space transmission.
• Frequency and time orthogonal signals.
• Mobile communications concepts – TDD, FDD
• Modulation types – PSK, QAM, OFDM, GMSK, PAM
• Spread spectrum – Orthogonal codes, single user detection, multi-user detection, RAKE receiver.
• Diversity reception - Time, frequency, spatial
• Multiple access – TDMA, FDMA, CDMA
• Wireless LAN, cellular and satellite technologies.
