Module CRITICAL SKILLS PROJECT (ROBOTICS)

Module code: EE181FZ
Credits: 7.5
Semester: 2
Department: INTERNATIONAL ENGINEERING COLLEGE
International: No
Overview Overview

This is a project-based learning module that requires students to work in 3-4 member teams with the aim of developing project planning, time management, conflict resolution and teamwork skills. Communication skills are also a key part of the module and students are required to write a technical report, a process report and a series of reflective journals. A key part of the project is to document their progress in three video presentations. In addition, they must present their work and, also, defend their work via an interview, as a team at the interim report stage and individually at the final report stage.
The project specification will be in the thematic area of System Dynamics and Control and requires the student to make use of the Makeblock Ultimate 2.0 kits in the execution of their project. The project will be outlined by the class facilitator but finalised and executed by the students. Projects are not supervised – they are facilitated, which implies that students, as a team, are responsible for all aspects of the project including meetings with the facilitator, agendas, reporting, etc.
The aims of this module are to introduce project-based learning, to introduce students to structured engineering design, to instil the creative spirit in students, to develop oral and written communication skills, to develop student’s experience of working in a group, and to engender an awareness of ethical issues in engineering.
The module consists of workshops in project-based learning & group work, engineering design fundamentals, basic project planning & engineering ethics, group reflection, technical report writing, and presentation skills.
