On successful completion of the module, students should be able to:

• Express a perspective on the origin of career guidance and the evolutionary and revisionary nature of it.
• Articulate with familiarity a range of vocational guidance theories and their application.
• Appreciate the multicultural dimensions of vocational choice.
• Demonstrate competence in the skills required to conduct interviews with a range of clients.
• Use a range of information and communications technology to support vocational guidance.
• Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of the ethical issues involved in test selection, administration, interpretation of tests, feed-back of results.
• Appreciate the underlying concepts of certain tests, e.g. aptitude, intelligence, ability, interest, with a view to determining if and/or how these can best be measured.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the concepts of reliability and validity and their importance in appropriate test selection. Administer and interpret specific aptitude and ability tests, interest inventories, problem check -lists, and study skills kits. Administer and interpret other relevant computerised tests available for school guidance and counseling.

The focus is on developing in the students an awareness of the theories and historical development of vocational guidance and counselling and enabling them to apply and critique conceptual knowledge in practical settings. The rationale is to cultivate an understanding of the ethical and other critical issues involved in test selection, administration, interpretation of tests, feed-back of results.
