This module is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills that will enable them to teach students with a range of low-incident disabilities at both primary and second-level. Students are provided with specific input in relation to pupils with: specific speech and language disorder; students with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties including pupils with ADD/ADHD and pupils with conduct disorders and serious levels of aggression and pupils on the Autistic Spectrum. The range of difficulties addressed on the Course changes from year-to-year in order to address the need of those taking the course. Practical strategies for adapting instruction to meet the learning needs of pupils with GLD are provided. Course input on each of the low-incidence SEN reflects current research in the field. Where applicable suitable technology, software and assistive devices are highlighted. There is a close relationship between this Module and the planning and teaching requirements of the Teaching Practice Module.
