	Overview
	This module will develop the students’ ability to work creatively with paper and card. A variety of stimuli will be interpreted through shadow drawing, stop motion, 2D relief and 3D sculpture. The exploration of Froebel Occupations and Gifts will be integral to the process. A key focus of the elective will be the development of students’ use of materials and how to apply them using new approaches, through historical and cultural lens. Students will have opportunities to explore and experiment with a wide range of paper, cards including their own hand-made paper, to make a series of artworks in digital, 2D and 3D presentations. Students will learn digital skills in photography and stop motion. The course will be delivered in nine two-hour blocks through a variety of teaching methods and approaches. Students will be expected to read in depth on fine art processes and historical and contemporary artists working in stop motion, film and public art in Ireland and internationally.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Demonstrate an understanding of 2D and 3D art elements through the expressive qualities of paper, materials and techniques. Display technical skills in photography, lighting and stop motion and apply them creatively to the Visual Arts curriculum. Utilise primary/secondary source material imaginatively as a stimulus to develop exploration of digital skills. Utilise primary/secondary source material imaginatively as a stimulus to develop exploration of paper/card sculpture. Exercise a critical awareness in selecting, evaluating and presenting a portfolio of development studies. Respond creatively to a set project brief through experimental manipulation of paper, materials and digital technologies. Place fine art making and public art in a historical and cultural context. Identify and respond to key readings in the area of Visual Arts.
