	Overview
	In this module participants will be introduced to basic conducting skills through a study of unison songs and part-songs suitable for school choirs. Workshops will include a focus on appropriate gestures, rehearsal strategies for teaching a song, voice production for choral singing and analysis of set works from the module repertoire. Repertoire will include sacred and secular (including popular) songs suitable for school and community choirs.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Analyse and choose suitable repertoire for their choir, taking into account the age and musical experience of the members Acquire a bank of warm up exercises and techniques to enhance their rehearsal techniques Recognise the time signature in pieces of music Identify and convey the expression and mood of a song though a choir’s performance Conduct songs in unison and two parts Be familiar with the basic conducting patterns Be equipped to improve the musical experience of children they encounter in schools or communities Be confident and inspired to establish a school choir
