Key ESD theories and methodologies will be examined and modelled which will build upon prior learning from DICE modules.

The following themes and topics will be explored:
• Climate Justice
• Fair Trade
• Global citizenship and denizenship
• Active citizenship
• Biodiversity
• Sustainability
• Socio-economic issues (food security, debt, population, migration)
• Political issues (human rights, peace and democracy)
• ESD in the Primary Curriculum

This ESD module will also further develop existing partnerships on campus, for example by involving representatives from Trócaire, the Green Campus Initiative and the College Biodiversity committee in relevant sessions.

Planning for the module will take cognisance of the Numeracy and Literacy Strategy (2011); specifically through its focus on integration and the promotion of critical literacy across all subject areas. Furthermore it will avail of both formative and summative assessment methods and promote problem solving in a real world context as recommended in the Strategy.
