Module DANCE EDUCATION

Module code: EDF426
Credits: 2.5
Semester: 1 and 2
Department: FROEBEL EDUCATION
International: No
Coordinator: Dr Triona Stokes (FROEBEL EDUCATION)
Overview Overview

This module develops an understanding of the principles and practices underpinning Dance in Education, with particular emphasis on the methods of Rudolph Laban. It focuses on the components of creative dance for performance purposes, informed by the aims and principles of the Physical Education/Dance Curriculum (1999). Students partaking in this course will engage in a variety of dance approaches and explore technique and composition in the exploration and generation of solo dances. There will be a dual emphasis on creating a dance to teach a performer, and in turn performing the dance created by another. The process of preparing a dance from inception to performance is designed to inform future teaching and learning experiences for students through an experiential learning approach.
