This module highlights the relationship between schools and the wider society. Acknowledging that this association is critical and complex, the module explores the dynamics at play and contextualises them against a theoretical framework of social justice and equality.
An analysis of historical perspectives on this relationship encourages students to see the cyclical nature of such knowledge and deepens their understanding of the interrelationship between the individual foundation subjects. Indeed, by referring to significant studies in the areas of Sociology of Education, Philosophy of Education and Psychology of Education, students are encouraged to consider their own classroom experience against a backdrop of national and international history and research, the evolution of relevant legislation and the emerging perspectives on Special Education.
