This module further develops the students’ personal and professional skills required to function and flourish at third level and on School Placement. With reference to The Code of Professional Conduct (Teaching Council, 2012), students will be introduced to the four ethical values of integrity, care, respect and truth.
The course will also examine personality types, advanced communication skills, advanced listening skills and self-esteem. Group dynamics in the staff room will be explored along with conflict management. Role-play will be utilised for the purposes of evaluation of personal learning style. Students will engage critically with literature pertaining to relevant concepts and theories with the express aim of developing sound theoretical and conceptual frameworks.

From a competency building perspective, students will reflect upon their competence in the following areas: Maths. Oral Irish, Music, Literacy, ICT, Visual Arts. They will then choose and study one of those areas in Year 2. Students will maintain a professional learning portfolio incorporating all aspects of the programme.
