This module introduces students to the personal and professional skills required to function and flourish at third level and on School Placement. Personality types, communication skills, listening skills and self-esteem will be explored. Students will investigate group dynamics and their relation to schools. Role-play, drama games and improvisation will be utilised for the purposes of evaluation of personal learning styles. Strong links are identified between theory and practice by means of engagement with pertinent national and international literature.
From a competency building perspective, students will reflect upon their competence in the following areas: Maths. Oral Irish, Written Irish, Music Literacy, ICT, Visual Arts. They will then choose and study one of those areas in Year 1 as part of up-skilling classes outside of the sessions identified above. Students will be introduced to key components of Digital Learning. As part of the module, students will have the opportunity to develop their personal competence and confidence in ICT as a methodology. The Digital Learning component will include weekly practical workshop based sessions over one semester to introduce the potential engagement with technology based teaching and learning on their school placements throughout the course
