• Demonstrate a working knowledge of the Primary School Curriculum – Mathematics and Science Junior Infants to 2nd class.
• Demonstrate a working knowledge of the themes, principles and aims of Aistear – the Early Childhood Curriculum Framework – as they apply to the teaching and learning of Mathematics and Science for infant classes.
• Demonstrate the content, pedagogical knowledge and vocabulary of mathematics and science necessary for teaching in the Primary School.
• Relate Emergent Numeracy and Numeracy Acquisition Theories to practice.
• Utilise a range of methodologies specific to mathematical and scientific enquiry in Junior Infants to 2nd classes (including use of ICT).
• Review, select and use appropriate resources and materials for teaching and learning mathematics and science appropriate for Junior Infants to 2nd class.
• Create and utilise an enquiry-based environment, indoors and outdoors, appropriate for Junior Infants to 2nd class.
• Explore and facilitate the use of play in mathematical and scientific learning.
