	Overview
	This module will introduce students to the principles, aims and methodologies of the Irish Primary School Curriculum (1999). Key teaching skills, and pedagogical tools in Visual Arts, Music, Drama, PE. SESE and SPHE will be explored. Students will be engaged in the principles and processes of planning, assessing and evaluating subject-specific content across the relevant curricular areas. Students will be encouraged to think critically about a number of fundamental areas as part of this module. These include: The central role of play across the curriculum The rationale for observation Organisation and attributes of a Froebelian learning environment Motivation as key to management of learning The use of concrete materials as part of guided discovery learning The rationale for the use of particular approaches to the teaching and learning process (including the uses of ICT as a methodology).

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Critically engage with the key curricular methodologies outlined in the Irish Primary School Curriculum (1999) through the lens of Visual Arts, Music, Drama, PE. SESE, SPHE Identify opportunities to connect theories of learning with the learning process, and transfer methodologies across a range of curricular areas. Articulate the principles and aims of the Irish Primary School Curriculum (1999) in planning, observation, recording and assessment Identify and reflect on his or her response to the learning experiences offered through different modes of learning Convey skills commensurate with the synthesis and evaluation of a range of key teaching methodologies Convey an understanding of the planning considerations for the use of play and other methodologies in a classroom Plan, organise and manage a variety of learning environments
