The module is an introduction to the history, theories and philosophies underpinning early childhood care and education from Rousseau to the present day. It will interrogate current practices and provision against a rich backdrop of philosophers and theorists including: Rousseau, Pestalozzi, Froebel, Steiner, Isaacs, McMillan, Montessori, Dewey, Freire, Malaguzzi etc.
Integral to this module will be the examination and theorising of childhood through a social, cultural and political lens to understand the changing constructions of childhood through time.
