The module will commence by establishing common understandings of ‘learning’ and ‘development’ and will explore how children learn and develop from birth. Drawing on developmental psychology, socio-cultural theory, bioecological theory, learning theory and theories of mind, this module will provide an overview of the child growing, developing and learning in the context of family and community. Students will focus on the theoretical context out of which contemporary understandings of how young children learn and develop have emerged.
