This module seeks to support students in critically reflecting on children’s play and its role in children’s
complex development and participation in society. It examines historical and progressive approaches to
children’s play and the dynamic encounters between children, adults, real life and pretend life, spaces,
resources and meaning making. This module is designed to appeal to a broad range of educators,
who wish to develop approaches to supporting children’s play in a play-based curriculum
through collaborative enquiry and research.
