	Overview
	This module seeks to support students in critically reflecting on children�s play and its role in children�s complex development and participation in society. It examines historical and progressive approaches to children�s play and the dynamic encounters between children, adults, real life and pretend life, spaces, resources and meaning making. This module is designed to appeal to a broad range of educators, who wish to develop approaches to supporting children�s play in a play-based curriculum through collaborative enquiry and research.

	Learning Outcomes
	On successful completion of the module, students should be able to: Critically appraise a range of theoretical perspectives and rhetorics of play Develop the skills of observing, listening to and identifying key elements of children�s experiences in play embedded in an enquiry led curriculum Draw on and apply theoretical perspectives to analyse children's play behaviours and stories Develop provision and environments for children�s play both indoors and outdoors and support children�s engagement in play, indoors and outdoors Share new understanding with children, parents, professionals and policy makers Support the professional development of educators working with a play-based, enquiry led curriculum
